Revenue threatens late filers
File your tax return and late and the Revenue, in a tough on evasion posture, will think that you’ve something to hide.
Missing the January 31 deadline for self-assessment tax returns will not only result in a fine but a much greater risk of an investigation into your tax affairs.

It is expected that up to 10% of SA returns will be submitted late. The Revenue will assume that late filing indicates that the taxpayer has something to hide so creating another possible trigger that may start an investigation. There is of course no connection between the two. It is perfectly reasonable to accept that the late filers are just lackadaisical at best and vulnerable at worst. Do not be caught out by leaving it too late to submit your returns.
